For sale is a United States Quarter Dollar coin from the year 2000, dedicated to the state of South Carolina as part of the popular 50 State Quarters Program. The obverse of the coin features the familiar portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States, designed by John Flanagan, along with the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "QUARTER DOLLAR." The reverse side, unique to South Carolina, proudly displays the state's symbols: a Palmetto tree (Sabal palmetto), the official state bird – the Carolina Wren, and the Yellow Jessamine flower. Above these are the year South Carolina joined the Union, 1788, and its nickname "THE PALMETTO STATE." Below is the year of minting "2000" and the national motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (Out of many, one). The coin is composed of a copper core clad with a copper-nickel alloy. This circulated piece serves as a wonderful memento of South Carolina and a must-have addition to any U.S. State Quarters collection.
